What's on the news

Though this news may not have made it to the headline but I find it very disturbing, especially when it involves the education field. I am referring to the recent freezing of PTPTN loan for UNISEL students. Apparently, the move was just a test to see if what Pakatan Rakyat claimed can be carried out. I shall not focus on PR's claim. What I cannot stand is the higher education minister, Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin's reason on the loan freeze, "It was to see what the state government would do to help the new students without the means of a PTPTN loan, that's why we froze it temporarily." But the money isn't yours to begin with! And, we're talking about education here! This is not a toy or some lego pieces you can test to see if your toy construction was stable. This is people's education and future we are talking about. Your action is absolutely childish!

Moving on to another issue. I absolutely cannot withhold my dissatisfaction towards a statement made by another minister. It probably is due to my personal circumstance or my personal emotion, but I still find what he said rather offensive. On the news regarding the bidding of WWW car plates, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz has successfully bid WWW 97. He said, “I have a lot of money, how to spend the money? As a minister, RM10,000 is not much; it’s not RM400,000 or RM100,000, that will be too much.”

"RM10,000 is not much."

"RM10,000 is not much."

I understand that it is probably my own personal bias feeling. I understand that that is how rich people use their money. I understand that I will not understand their mentality.

But in my situation right now, I just cannot fathom what he said and I feel very dissatisfied with that statement.

Finally, end of travelling!

Back in KL, again!

Because of what my company does, I was required in a graduation ceremony in Batu Pahat yesterday afternoon, where I acted as the emcee of the event. So my colleagues and I went south on Friday morning to prepare for the big day!

It was my first time to Batu Pahat and I was slightly excited because I didn't know how developed (or undeveloped) Batu Pahat is. It was a rather long drive from KL to BP. Probably due to numerous stops at the rest area. But the journey definitely seems longer when I was the driver and I couldn't travel at high speed because the car was extremely fully loaded.

Something which I deem worthy of mentioning about Batu Pahat is one of the hotels, Hotel Katerina. I hadn't realized before but my colleagues told me that Hotel Katerina is the hotel where the infamous misconduct between our MCA leader and one lady occurred. I even know the room number! I found this fact rather amusing actually, because our ceremony was initially planned to be held in that hotel. It was like reenacting the infamous action. I might even be able to take a peek of the room and see how it was like.

Of course, Batu Pahat is more than just that. I think I can say that it is a rather well developed town. My company's centre is situated near a Carrefour and a residential area. Surrounding Carrefour are rolls of shops which are fully occupied. It is a rather busy area, I should say.

I was hoping to try some local cuisine but I didn't really get the chance. However I did notice that the noodles in Batu Pahat is rather hard, which could prove difficult for digestion. I had similar noodles in different stalls and restaurants and it was all rather chewy.

Interestingly, I found a very good bakery shop! Initially I wanted to celebrate my colleague's birthday so another colleagues who based in BP brought us to buy a cake. In the shop, I saw another woman buying one of the pastry on sale. It was like a muffin or a bun. That woman bought TWENTY of it! She said it is THAT nice! So I trusted her and bought 3, one each for my colleagues. I had it on the next day and IT REALLY WAS DAMN GOOD! However I didn't get the name of the pastry, or the shop that I went to. I only know the direction. Guess I could only get it if I ever travel to BP again.

Basically there is nothing much to talk about for this trip. Except that, being an emcee would have been more fun if the ceremony was conducted in English!

I am now super tired. But tomorrow is Monday, another working day. I am dead meat.
